Reigning Harvest Queen Message

Harvest Queen Pageant

A message from your 2016 Harvest Queen Gabrielle Smith

I am so thankful of the New Liskeard Fall Fair Board Friends of Festival Committee, the New Liskeard Agricultural Society, judges of the New Liskeard Harvest Queen Pageant, in addition to Sherri Hill and Sharron Graydon for your incredible dedication and for giving each and every contestant of the Harvest Queen Pageant the opportunity to build confidence, inspire other members of our community and learn more about our wonderful agricultural community for which every member of our community is lucky enough to call our home. Our Fall Fair is an extraordinary weekend for where we have the opportunity to shine light on and celebrate our area’s agricultural resources and all the hard working people that make such a thing possible, with the many long hours of meticulous planning and organizing to whom we all owe our thanks to for making the Fall Fair possible.

Being a Harvest Queen contestant is a wonderful and unique experience, we are all brought together to share in this wonderful experience of the love of our area and the opportunity to represent the Temiskaming Region in further events in Ontario. We are a diverse group of people with varying backgrounds and experiences in our agricultural community we all have equal opportunity to express ourselves with our varying passions and our love for our area through the fair weekend. We
are fortunate enough to be able to expand our knowledge on our agricultural area as well as learn, grow and build lasting friendships with each other. We are all very appreciative to have had the opportunity to learn so much about our agricultural market and also gain these valuable lessons and experiences that we will always hold dear.
Through my year as the 2016 Harvest Queen, I have been very fortunate to attend and participate in several local events and be able to help in any way I possibly can. I have been met only with joy and smiles and I am truly thankful for this, it has meant a great deal to me to be able to help out at events such as the New Liskeard Agricultural Society Annual Awards Banquet , the food drive conducted at the STATO Haunted Hustle race, and A Christmas to Remember. I am also thankful to have been able to lend my musical talents to several areas and events in our community such as the Plowing Match, and the Temiskaming Lodge. It never ceases to amaze me to see how many people in our area are generous enough to dedicate hours and even days of their lives to help organize, promote and run all of the events in our community. It is truly inspiring to see the number of volunteers work so tirelessly in the hope of making these events a success and ensuring the smiles of the other inhabitants of our area. The generosity and hard work of the people in our community is truly proof that even if you give a little bit can make a huge difference can make a monumental difference in someone else’s day and that we can accomplish truly great things if we all come together and work for one singular purpose. They have all inspired me to continue to continue making a difference in our community and I aspire to go thru life with the levels of passion, generosity and dedication that they have all repeatedly shown. It is truly awe inspiring to see all the organisations, businesses and individuals that sponsor and support our local events and I am humbled and in great appreciation that many of them have shown support for me as an individual. I wish to thank everyone who has helped me get to where I am today and also helped our area flourish, all of your efforts go greatly appreciated by not only me but our entire area.

As part of being a delegate in the Miss Northern Ontario Regional Canada Pageant where I will be representing the wondrous town of New Liskeard, I have been very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to fundraise for Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer along side one of our previous Harvest Queens, Hannah Fedechko-Conroy. This charity assists families in Northern Ontario who are coping with the strong and unforgivable impacts of childhood cancer. I encourage any individual who has a few minutes of spare time to read up on the amazing services offered thru this organisation, it is truly remarkable. I had the opportunity to help with the Christmas fundraiser, A Christmas to Remember, which took place at the Classic Theater in Cobalt on December 16th and 17th,put on by Hannah Fedechko-Conroy. Each performer was incredible and it was a wonderful experience to help with not only decorating and making food but also help with the business side of things, being able to meet with various local business owners who sponsored the shows. It will never cease to amaze me and never fail to put a smile on my face to see how many people came to support this event. Being on the stage myself and being surrounded by the endless love and support of every spectator and performer was amazing and is a experience that I wouldn’t change for anything. Both shows were completely sold out and received several donations. All the proceeds of both shows were divided evenly between the One Foot Forward charity, which is in loving memory of 2 year old Greyson Zubyck, and the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer. I am incredibly thankful to be able to say that I played a part in helping these 2 charities as well as for all the wonderful performers who took part in those 2 evenings of heartwarming Christmas music, they all truly helped make it a Christmas to remember.

Being the 2016 Fall Fair Harvest Queen has been an incredible confidence building, dream fulfilling remarkable experience. I wish everyone had the chance to experience it and be able to have the opportunity to share in the wonders of our community. I have learned a great deal about myself and each event that I have
taken part in has made me a better educated, stronger and a better young woman who is more prepared to take on the world with more confidence and excitement then I ever thought possible. I have been able to enhance my public speaking and communication skills and gained more self confidence to aid me in my future career goals.

I would like to say “Thank you” to every single member of our community who have supported me,encouraged me to do my best and been by my side all through this incredible year as Harvest Queen. I would like to say a special thank you to my mom Joanne Smith who has been with me at every event, encouraged me to follow my goals, and surrounded me with more love and support then I could ever ask for. She has been my rock and I am
so proud to call myself her daugher. I would also like to thank my father Owen Smith, even though he is no longer with us he has been a huge inspiration to me all thru my life and I definitely would not be where I am today if it were not for he and my mom’s constant love and support. I am blessed to have had the opportunity to have my father with me as long as I did and continue to be blessed today to have a mom that helps me realise all my potential, fall in love with ur wonderful community and encourage me in all of my endeavours. I aspire to live my life by the words of my dad “There is no such thing as can’t” and work hard to realise all of my goals to become the young woman that will forever be involved in our community. With our incredible people and lovely community, we are all truly blessed to live right here in Temiskaming Shores.
I truly hope for our 2017 Fall Fair that everyone has the opportunity to fully appreciate all the hard work and dedication that made it possible. I hope for nothing but the brightest days filled with laughter and joy, and for everyone in our community, with our diverse backgrounds and experiences to come together to celebrate and cherish our wonderful agricultural area! To the contestants of the 2017 Harvest Queen Pageant contestants or those who are considering on taking part, go for it.
